FRAMINGHAM – Rose Regina (Simonetta) Ametti, 92, a lifelong resident of Framingham, MA, died on Monday, January 10, 2022. Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Enrico & Maria (Bianchi) Simonetta and the beloved wife of the late Leo C. Ametti who died in 1973.
Rose was a 1947 graduate of Framingham High School and later the South Middlesex Secretarial School.
She worked for many years as a secretary at Framingham North High School, a position she loved and in which she formed many lifelong friendships with her coworkers and many of the students who referred to her as Mrs. A. She could not go many places in Framingham without running into someone who knew her from her “high school days”.
Rose was a woman of deep faith and a long-time parishioner at St. George’s Catholic Church with a particular devotion to the Blessed Mother.
At home, Rose enjoyed gardening, puzzle-making, and knitting and crocheting. Those lucky enough to own something she made know how talented she was. Rose had an extraordinary memory and was one of the most organized people you are likely to meet, keeping meticulous notes and files on everything.
Having lived in the same house for more than 60 years, Rose had an incredible support system of neighbors who adopted her as a mother or grandmother, kept an eye out for her, and helped her in myriad ways over the years, especially after her husband died. For her family and her friends, she was the “matriarch”.
The family would like to thank Heritage at Framingham, Brookhaven Hospice, and the nursing staff on the 5th floor at Metrowest Medical Center for their compassionate care of Rose.
Rose is survived by her daughters, Judith Paulhus & her husband Normand (WV), and Kathleen Ametti & her partner Joseph Santoro (ME); her five grandchildren, Jennifer Paulhus & her husband Joseph Mileti (IA), Christopher Paulhus & his partner Kayla Brunner (OH), Elizabeth Paulhus (CO), Merelise Ametti & her partner Winston Chung (VT), and Henry Ametti (ME); her brother-in-law, Robert Saunders; her nephews Robert Saunders (NY) and Matthew (Denise) Saunders (AZ); and many others. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Leo, her infant son Michael, and her sister Regina Saunders.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rose’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham, on Tuesday morning January 18 from 8:30 – 9:30 AM.
Her Funeral Mass will follow in St. George Church, 74 School St., Framingham at 10 o’clock.
Interment will take place in St. Tarcisius Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19, masks must be worn at all gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Rose’s name to A Place to Turn, an emergency food pantry in Natick. Donations can be made online at https://www.aplacetoturn-natick.org/donate/ or can be sent to: A Place to Turn, 99 Hartford St. Natick, MA 01760.
