ASHLAND – Dorothy Nordin, 80, of Ashland passed away December 24, 2021 after a period of declining health.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Capolongo. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Nordin of Ashland, and three children: Denise Nordin of Auburn, MA, Dawn Hughes of Ashburn, VA, and Darren Nordin of Londonderry, NH. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Justin, Seth, Sarah, Hailey, Callie, Sadie, Jonah, Hunter, and Austin, one great grandchild, Marley, and two loving sisters, Carmel Christensen and Darlene Hamway.
Dorothy graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and Berkeley Secretarial School in New Jersey.
She met and married Dennis Nordin and they moved where his work took them: Pittsburgh, PA, Woodbridge, VA, Framingham and Glen Burnie, MD. In 1981 they permanently settled in Ashland.
Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, co-worker and grandmother. She was warm and kind to everyone she met.
She held a number of administrative assistant positions, to include: a dental office, the Middlesex Newspaper, and Cherubino Health Center. Additionally, she ran a successful daycare from her home in the 80’s.
Her last memorable job was as a CNA at Leonard Morse Hospital where she won an award for employee of the year.
She loved decorating their beautiful Greek Revival Farmhouse, where she raised her three kids and cared for goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats and geese. She fostered greyhounds and loved keeping birds. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Above all of this, working and raising her family, she loved the Lord and lived with Him as the center of her life. Anyone who was close to her could see that in her smile.
A memorial service is being planned for March 2022.
