ASHLAND – Michael David Umholtz, 51, stepped into eternity during a beautiful sunrise on December 14 2021.

He was the beloved husband of Diane (Radford) Umholtz for 26 years and devoted father of Lauren Umholtz and Emily Umholtz.

Michael was born July 13, 1970 in Lancaster, PA to the late Leo Umholtz and Elma (Buffington) Umholtz who were instrumental in nurturing his faith in Jesus as his Savior.

Michael spent his formative years in the rich farm land of Lancaster County where he milked cows after school and later harvested wheat in the Midwest. In 1990, he met Diane while serving with Youth With a Mission aboard the ship, Anastasis.

He came home knowing Diane was the right person for him but it was another 3 years before he revealed his heart. The budding relationship brought him to Ashland and, on May 13, 1995, Michael and Diane married.

Michael received his HVAC training from York Technical Institute and became a master plumber after moving to MA. He was the successful owner of Umholtz Plumbing and Heating for 16 years prior to its sale to Martel HVAC in September.

Michael cherished his role as father to Lauren and Emily. He prioritized family by his nightly presence at the dinner table, being home on the weekends and the annual Daddy Daughter camping trip.

Michael loved his time in the outdoors camping with family and friends and fishing for trout. The annual Maine hunting trips recharged him through quiet hours watching nature and camaraderie with his close friends.

Michael expressed his creativity through animal drawings for his daughters, award-winning baked goods for friends and rehabbing the local Grange Hall into the family home. His most meaningful creativity was displayed through the drama team and Sacred Space events held at Faith Community Church. These avenues allowed him to combine his creativity with his faith and encourage others on their faith journeys.

In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his brothers Kirby (Kaye) Umholtz and Eric (Karen) Umholtz, his sister Christine (Tim) Kelly, his sister-in-law Jaclyn Umholtz, and 20 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father and his youngest brother, Joel Umholtz.

A celebration of life will be held Jan 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Hopkinton.

Donations may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice (75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923) where the family received compassionate care and support during Michael’s final days.
