“Gas prices tend to fall a bit this time of year due to the shorter days and less robust demand,” says Mary Maguire, Director of Public/Government Affairs, in a press release. “And this trend was assisted by the recent steep drop in oil prices due to fears over the omicron variant. But the variant’s impact on pricing appears to be fading, so it remains to be seen if oil prices stabilize or move higher.”

AAA Northeast’s December 13 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 2 cents lower than last week ($3.35), averaging $3.33 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 8 cents lower than a month ago ($3.41), and $1.17 higher than this day last year ($2.16).
