ASHLAND – Mary Alice (Reill) Cognetti of Ashland, passed away on June 29, 2021, at home, surrounded by her family.

She grew up on River Street in Scranton, PA, was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and attended Marywood University.

She was the loving mother of four children, Joseph M. Cognetti Jr. and his wife Christine of Stamford, CT, Allison Cognetti of Ashland, Ryan T. Cognetti and his wife Paige, of Scranton, PA and Stephen A. Cognetti and his wife Lauren of Waverly, PA. She leaves 8 beautiful grandchildren: Ella, Olivia, Kate, Cooper, Carter, Drew, Quincy and Sloane. In addition, she leaves her sister, Nancy (Reill) Norton of Scranton, PA and Margorie (Reill) Critchley of Parsippany, NJ. She is pre-deceased by two sisters and one brother, Jeanne (Reill) Kanavy, Eleanore (Reill) Rader and Thomas Reill. She always spoke fondly of growing up in a house with seven people (5 of whom were women) and only one bathroom!

When Alice wasn’t running away from the mere sight of a dog, she was reading. She loved to read and had probably read just about every mystery novel ever published. She loved hosting the annual Christmas dinner in her home for her extended family, traveling to NYC for weekend trips with her sisters, her daughter and nieces and she was born to shop!

Her sense of humor will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She remained comical and obstinate to the very end. She will be missed greatly.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 27 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ashland Public Library (https://www.ashlandmass.com/184/Ashland-Public-Library)
