FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High boys varsity soccer team won an incredible tournament game against Franklin 2-1 at Bowditch Field in the MIAA tournament against Franklin High, said Coach Jon Wood.

The sides were extremely evenly matched and the Flyers were fortunate enough to come away with the victory, said Coach Wood.

Framingham took the lead in the first half in a great shot by senior forward Yuri Santos. It was Yuri’s fourth goal in his last three games.

For the rest of the half Franklin had the better of the play and took it to the Flyers.

The second half was more of the same. Franklin controlled the pace and dominated possession as the Flyers searched for answers to their controlled style.

Franklin tied the game late on a shot from distance that fooled junior goalie Tyler Ingham.

With time winding down in the game, and overtime seemingly inevitable, junior captain Jack Carney became the hero as he scored on a fantastic individual effort giving the Flyers a 2-1 victory, said Coach Wood.

The Flyers defense was outstanding in this game as Framingham suffered two key injuries early in the first half that changed the game plan entirely, said Coach Wood.

Junior backs Dhiego Miranda, Tyler Knox, Ben Sharon, and sophomore Gus dos Santos held firm and willed the team to an unlikely victory, said Coach Wood.

The Flyers advance to the final 16 in the state tournament and will play Ludlow at home on a day and time yet to be determined.
