Framingham Announces Search Process To Hire Assistant Superintendent For Equity & Diversity

FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Assistant Superintendent of Schools For Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement Joseph Corazzini will be leaving the District for a new opportunity in higher education. 

The District announced today, September 24, it has posted the position and is currently seeking candidates to apply for the Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement position.

Framingham community members are encouraged to participate in the search and hiring process of identifying the new leadership for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement.

The Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement works closely with the various stakeholders and is responsible for prioritizing and operationalizing initiatives, especially those dealing with the curriculum (in collaboration with the Office for Teaching and Learning) as well as faculty hiring, staff recruiting and retention (in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources). The Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement is responsible for guiding efforts and creating opportunities to define, assess, and promote diversity, equity and inclusion, educational and employment opportunities, and cultural fluency. In addition, they oversee and develop the District’s collaboration with businesses, community organizations, and post-secondary school partnerships. The Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement ensures legal compliance with state and federal laws as they pertain to student discipline and well-being and interacts with parents when issues arise on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools. The Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement completes Special Projects as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

The Process
The District is actively pursuing volunteers to join the Initial Candidate Screening Committee, Stakeholder Screening Committees, as well as, to gather input on the characteristics and priorities to be considered when seeking candidates. While we recognize it is a big time commitment, these are important steps to ensuring community involvement in selecting the right leader for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Community Engagement. Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Community Members are encouraged to apply to join.

The process for the Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity and Community Engagement search will be as follows:

Round 1:

Initial Candidate Screening Committee: We are seeking 12 volunteers to serve on the Round 1 Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will consist of 4 parents/community members, 4 educators, and 4 administrators.  Members selected for this part of the process will:

  • Establish key characteristics of an Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Diversity, and Community Development
  • Review resumes and applications, and
  • Recommend 7-10 initial candidates who will proceed to Round 2.

Round 2

Stakeholder Screening Committees Interviews: We are seeking up to 30 volunteers to serve on the Round 2 Interviews. There will be three (3) separate screening committees each representing a stakeholder group: parents/community members, educators, and administrators.

Members selected for this part of the process will:

  • Meet with their respective stakeholder group to conduct 30-minute interviews with the 7-10 selected candidates from Round 1 and rate their performance.
  • No more than 10 individuals will make up each stakeholder group.
  • At the end of Round 2, ratings from all Stakeholder Screening Committees will be tallied, and 5 or so candidates will proceed to Round 3.

Round 3

Cabinet and Superintendent of Schools Interviews: The Superintendent and his Cabinet will interview the candidates who progress from Round 2 and submit 2-3 finalists. Candidates will also be asked to complete a writing assignment. 

Round 4

Virtual Finalists Forum: The finalists will each meet with the FPS community and answer questions (anticipated to take place the first week of December).

The District is seeking volunteers to join the screening committee during either Round 1 or Round 2 of the interview process. If you wish to be considered, please complete this Application by October 1, 2021.

Screening Committees will be announced on October 7. 

All Screening Committee members must undergo a full training, which includes an anti-bias training, and commit to a significant amount of time. All meetings will be virtual. Screening Committee members will have work to complete outside of designated meeting times and MUST attend ALL meetings for their respective Round.

Timeline and Dates
Round 1 Dates: Initial Candidate Screening Committee Meetings (all meetings will start at 4:30pm and end at 8:30pm)

  • Orientation: November 1 | November 2 | November 3 (if needed)
  • Selection Process: November 8 | November 9 | November 10 

Round 2 Dates: Stakeholder Screening Committee Interviews (all meetings will start at 4:30pm and end at 8:30pm; interviews may end at 9pm)

  • Orientation: November 8 | November 9 | November 10 
  • Interviews:  November 15 | November 16 | November 17

In rare circumstances, dates will need to change to ensure a better pool of applicants; in such a case, an announcement will be made as soon as possible. 

It is very important for us to have a diverse screening committee that celebrates and mirrors the diversity of our students.
