ASHLAND – Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Ashland High MCAS scores improved.

In English, 86% of Ashland students met or exceeded the expectation in English, up 4% since 2019. And in Math, 84% of students met or exceeded the expectation in math, up 3% since 2019.

MCAS were not issued in Spring 2020 due to the pandemic. They exams were issued in Spring 2021.

In comparison, 10th grade English language arts, 64 percent of Massachusetts students scored Meeting Expectations or higher compared to 61 percent in 2019. In 10th grade math, 52 percent of Massachusetts students scored Meeting Expectations or higher, compared to 59 percent in 2019.

The numbers for elementary and middle however were not as stellar as the high school.

Fifty-three percent of Ashland elementary school students met or exceed the science MCAS exam, down one percent since 2019.

In grade 8, 57% of Ashland students met or exceeded the science exam, but that was down 12% since 2019.

For grades 3-8 in the Ashland Public Schools, 58% of students met or exceeded the expectation on the English exam, down 9% since 2019.

And in math, 48% of students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded in their results, but that was down 16% from 2019.
