SHREWSBURY – The Framingham High boys soccer team opened the season with a victory on the road against Shrewsbury High School under the lights.

The Flyers defeated Shrewsbury 2-1, under head coach Dan Avery.

Junior Christian Martins scored early in the first half. The goal was assisted by senior captain John Halpin, said coach Jon Wood.

In the second half Shrewsbury tied the game at 1-1 and the rain increased in intensity.

The Flyers fought through it and scored the game winning goal with four minutes to play, said Coach Wood.

“Sophomore defender Gus dos Santos placed a beautiful free kick into the box and captain Halpin headed it home,” said Coach Wood. “”It was a big win.”

The Flyers have their home opener on Saturday September 11 against Boston Latin at 1:30 p.m. at Framingham High.
