FRAMINGHAM – The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) issued a health warning about cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) cells in Lake Waushakum.

Cyanobacteria was discovered at Lake Waushakum in the last 24 hours.

Lake Cochituate has been closed due to the algae since mid-July.

The health advisory is to warn individuals against contact with the water as it is unsafe for people and pets.

No swimming is allowed.

When the algae is present, the water is

Unsafe for People and Pets
Do not swim.
Do not swallow water.
Keep animals away.
Rinse off after contact with water.
