NATICK – The town of Natick’s Director of Community & Economic Development is leaving for a job as the Charlottesville Director of Neighborhood Development Services.

James Freas has been the Natick Director of the Department of Community & Economic since November 2019.

Prior to that he worked for the City of Newton from 2012-2019 as the Chief Planner for Long Range Planning; and Acting Director and then Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Development.

“I am excited to be returning to Virginia and eager to get started with the City,” said Freas in a press release “There are a number of important conversations happening right now around development and zoning and I look forward to engaging with the community.”

The Director of Neighborhood Development will oversee a portfolio that includes the City’s Planning and Zoning departments. He starts with the City of Charlottesville on September 13.

The Town of Natick has begun advertising for the position.
