FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High School Gridiron Club is hosting its first-ever cornhole tournament and fair on August 21. The 2 to 6 p.m. event at the high school’s turf & fields will benefit the Flyers football program.

A regulation Cornhole Tournament will offer a 1st prize value of $500/team and a 2nd prize of $250/team (register here). Additionally, there will be a number of fun lawn games and competitions (including football & cornhole).

Kayem Hot Dog Truck from Boston Events Specialists will coming with hot dogs, burgers and BBQ and Kona Ice will there too.

Raffles include an “Ultimate Game Day” Raffle and a general raffle (purchase tickets here). Vendors displaying include Meant to Bee, Ruff House Barkery, Fabulous Creations by Tracy Moutafis, & more. The FHS Gridiron Club will be selling “Flyers” and football apparel.

Because the high school does not collect sports fees, a program like this needs to raise more funds to offset the costs of running the program, which can have upwards of almost 100 participating athletes.

The Gridiron Club pays for things like practice gear, supplemental equipment, & pre-game meals among other things.

As of July 14, Rob Ferrante was named the new Head Football Coach following the resignation of Ed Mantie. Paul Spear said “Rob is a seasoned veteran football coach with a wealth of experience and knowledge.  Rob’s ability as this seasoned educator makes him the right choice to bring a steadying influence to the team in this time of change.”

Ferrante said “I know we have a lot of work to do, but this event will be an opportunity to bring the team, the fans, and the community together.”

He also acknowledged change can be disruptive, but he is looking forward to bringing some consistency. “My motto has always been “Work to Win”. This is no different. We can’t change the past, but we can always change how we respond. We adapt, we move
forward”.

Liz Coleman, President of the FHS Gridiron Club, couldn’t agree more. “Organizing this tournament has been a lot of work, but with the help of Jacqui Goldberg, our Cornhole Director, we feel that this event couldn’t have come at a better time. We’ve missed seeing everyone so it will be a perfect time to re-unite.”

Coleman also wanted to acknowledge that this would not be possible without the support of Chick-fil-A and many of the other sponsors such as Avidia and MutualOne. Travel Leaders of Framingham, McGovern Ford, Circle Furniture, Liquori Landscaping, JP Cleaning, Phil Ottaviani Real Estate, Anderson’s Driving School, and so many others.

“We are grateful and humbled by the level of generosity from all of our sponsors,” she said.
