FRAMINGHAM – Marie A. (Dwyer) Fitzgerald, 83, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Saturday, July 3 ,2021 following a brief illness.  

Born in Boston, Marie was the cherished daughter of the late Edmund J. and Sarah E. (McNicholas) Dwyer, and the devoted wife of the late Richard D. Fitzgerald of Framingham.

Marie was raised in Belmont and Arlington and attended Framingham State College, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education; she later earned her Master’s degree from Boston University.  

Marie taught as an elementary teacher in the Framingham Public Schools for over 30 years.

Marie was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She was a beloved mother and dedicated caregiver to her late husband during his extended illness.  She is survived by her children, Brian R. of Framingham, Catherine M. of Medway, and Deborah E. of Acton. Marie was blessed to have a supportive extended family, including Phyllis R. (Trabucco) and the late Joseph A. Fitzgerald of Sebago, ME, Robert E. and the late Anne M. (Fitzgerald) Hamilton of Chelmsford MA, and Elizabeth J. (Fitzgerald) and the late Gary S. Swanson of Stow, MA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Marie’s life by gathering for visiting hours at the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, July 9 from 3-7 p.m.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church of Ascension Parish, 160 Concord Rd, Sudbury on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.

 Interment will follow at the Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
