City of Framingham to Open Cooling Centers Due to Excessive Heat; 2 of 3 of City Beaches Open

FRAMINGHAM – With temperatures anticipated to reach heat indexes from 95-105 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued heat warnings. The City will open cooling centers to provide relief from the heat.

People should continue to take extra precautions working or spending time outside. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.

As a reminder, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Car interiors can reach incredibly high temperatures in a matter of minutes. Check on your neighbors and loved ones, as well.

Cooling Centers will be open at the following locations:

• Framingham Libraries (Each library will offer bottled water and be air-conditioned)

• Main Library (49 Lexington Street – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.)
• McAuliffe Branch (746 Water Street – 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.)
• Callahan Center (535 Union Avenue, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)

Framingham Beaches are open 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. as staffing allows and are free for residents. Resident ID, showing a Framingham address, will be required for admittance).

The beaches are located at Learned Pond on Shawmut Terrace, Saxonville Beach on Lake Road, and Lake Waushakum on Nipmuc Road.

Both Learned’s and Saxonville Beaches are open for swimming.

Waushakum Beach is still closed for swimming until water quality testing passes. Waushakum beach is available for sunbathing, however.
