FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer will be the featured guest at the Framingham Youth Council meeting on Sunday, June 27.

This is just the second time the Mayor has attended a Youth Council meeting, since it was created in 2019.

The Youth Council invited the Mayor for a Q&A session.

The current Framingham Youth Council is comprised of 13 teens, ages 13 to 19. The Council meets monthly, typically on the weekends.

Earlier this year, the Youth Council submitted an ordinance to the City Council to have free menustral products in all city-owned buildings and all middle and high schools.

The City Council, which only has jurisdiction over City-Owned building, and not the schools, recently passed the ordinance 11-0. It is awaiting the Mayor’s signature.

During this past year, State Rep. Maria Robinson, Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis, Superintendent of Schools Bob Tremblay, Superintendent Jonathan Evans, Framingham Assistant Superintendent of Schools Joseph Corazzini, and new City of Framingham Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officers Maritsa Barros have attended the Youth Council meetings as guest speakers.

District 5 City Councilor Robert Case is the City Council advisor to the Youth Council. District 5 School Committee member Priscila Sousa is the liaison to the Youth Council from the Framingham School Committee.

The Mayor appoints two at-large members to the Council for a 2-year term. Each member of the City Council also appoints a member to the Youth Council. The at-large Councilors each appoint one youth between the ages of 13-22 for a 2-year term. Each of the 9 district Councilors appoints one youth from their district for a 1-year term.

SOURCE published Q&A sessions with the Youth Councilors earlier this spring.

The terms of all 13 members of the current Council end this month. They can re-apply for re-appointment.

The City has yet to post the application for Youth Councilors.

The June 27 meeting will be held on Zoom at 7 p.m.
