FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer has nominated Planning Board member Joseph Norton for another 3-year term.

Norton, a former 5-year member of the Framingham Zoning Board of Appeals, was appointed by the Mayor to the Planning Board in 2018.

The Nobscot resident has “25 years of experience as a business owner, real estate agent, and executive manager,” wrote Mayor Spicer to the City Council.

Norton’s term was set to expire on June 30, 2021, along with Framingham Planning Board member Shannon Fitzpatrick. Both live in District 1.

The 11-member city Council must approve the Mayor’s nominee to the 5-member Board, as the legislative branch of the City’s government. A simple majority of 6 votes is needed.

The Framingham Planning Board is charged with overseeing and guiding development in the community. Appointed by the Mayor, the 5-member body reviews permit applications for subdivisions and some special permits, and it is designated as the authority for Site Plan Review permits. 

The chair of the Planning Board is Kristina Johnson, who lives in District 7. Her term expires in June 2022, along with Planning Board member Aaron Bober’s term. he lives in District 1, also.

Thomas Buie is the 5th member of the Board. He lives in District 4. His term expires in June 2023.
