FRAMINGHAM – Oliver Yasuna of Hopkinton, has been accepted to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, where he will study computer science in fall 2021.

After attending college for a short time post-high school, then being in the workforce for more than a decade, Yasuna knew that if he wanted to advance his career, he would need to learn additional skills and earn a college degree.

He chose to attend MassBay as it was the best place for him to receive a quality education with the flexibility and support he needed as a single father.

Yasuna made Dean’s List every semester, was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, and is now graduating from MassBay with a 3.96 GPA.

Additionally, he was a mentee in the MassBay STEM Mentor Program and tutored his peers in math through the College’s Academic Achievement Center.

While studying at MassBay, Yasuna interned at Perthera, Inc. in Holliston, which developed into full-time employment.

“I don’t know if I would have come back to college if it wasn’t for my son, but I’m glad I did,” said Yasuna. “WPI is a dream college for me. Ten years ago, I would not have believed this was possible, but here I am headed there in the fall.”

Yasuna graduated from MassBay with his associate of science degree in computer science, earning high honors. His future goals include earning his master and doctoral degrees, as well as beginning his own startup company.
