BOSTON – Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark will host a virtual roundtable on gun violence prevention with community leaders.

In March, the House of Representatives passed two major gun control bills. The first would close a long-standing loophole in gun laws by expanding background checks to those purchasing weapons over the internet, at gun shows, and through certain private transactions. The second would give authorities 10 days for federal background checks to be completed before a gun sale can be licensed.

Assistant Speaker Clark is also an original cosponsor of the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act, which includes a provision to close the “boyfriend loophole” which prohibits persons convicted of misdemeanor stalking or dating violence from possessing firearms.

Joining Assistant Speaker Clark will be panelists Manuel Oliver, founder of Change the Ref and father of Joaquin Oliver, a Parkland shooting victim, Rina Schneur, MA Chapter Co-Lead, Moms Demand Action, Will Dunn, College Readiness Advisor, College Bound Dorchester Mark Culliton, College Bound Dorchester

The virtual panel starts at 11 a.m. and will last an hour.
