BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will begin to accept applications on Thursday, May 20, for the FY2022 Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP).

The program supports projects that increase access to freight rail service and preserve or stimulate economic development through the generation of new or expanded rail service which will reduce truck traffic on our roadways, thereby reducing congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.

Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP) is a competitive state-funded public/private partnership program that provides financial assistance to eligible applicants to invest in industry-based rail infrastructure access improvement projects. Applicants must match public funds with private funds, with private funds paying at least 40 percent of a project’s total cost.

Industrial Rail Access Program awards are scheduled to be announced in August 2021.
