NATICK – Natick – Robert H. Hedges, 94, of Natick, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.  

Born in Newton on August 7, 1926. He was the son of the late Irene F. (McGrath) and the late Howard H. Hedges.  

He was the husband of Jeanette N. (Semonian), his best friend and loving wife of 58 years who died in 2018. He is survived by his daughter Nancy G. Thayer of Natick and his son John R. Hedges and his wife Mary (Harris) of Wellesley and was the proud grandfather of Sarah E. Thayer. He leaves two sisters, Rose Campbell of Framingham and Frances Enman of Naples, Florida. He was predeceased by his sister, Vandla Jean Estes of Natick. 

He was a graduate of Wellesley High School, class of 1945.

He went to summer school to graduate with his class and still join the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably during WWII as a member of the Army’s 3rd Division in the European Theater. After the war, he served two years in the occupation before returning home.  

He was a longtime resident of Framingham, relocating to Natick in 1970.

He worked for 32 years as a member of the Framingham Fire Department ending his career as Acting Chief. He retired in 1988.

During his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed sailing and sailed to the Bahamas and the West Coast of Florida in their sailboat. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the Silver Grays Dance Club.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street in Framingham on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 4-7 p.m.  

All are invited to meet at the Norton Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 12 at 10:45 a.m. to proceed to Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove St., Framingham for a graveside service at 11 a.m.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to Natick Service Council, 2 Webster St., Natick, MA 01760, natickservicecouncil.org
