FRAMINGHAM – Barbara Ann (Ceppetelli) Scagnelli, age 82, of Cape Neddick, Maine and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2021.

She lived a life filled with family, love, service and travel.

Born in Webster, Barbara was the daughter of the late Angeline and Arthur Ceppetelli.

Barbara graduated with honors from Bartlett High School. She attended the University of Connecticut and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.

Upon graduating from UConn, Barbara was recruited by the CIA and worked for the Kennedy administration during the Bay of Pigs.

She then went on to earn her master’s degree in Education and spent her career following her passion as a dedicated and adored high school English teacher. She taught at both Wakefield High School and Keefe Tech Vocational High School in her 25 plus years as an educator.

Barbara met the love of her life, Paul Scagnelli, also a UConn Huskie, and in 1971 they were married at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn where they began a family tradition of annual Christmas parties that provided countless wonderful memories. Barbara and Paul had a love for the ocean and enjoyed entertaining friends and family on their deck in Cape Neddick, Fort Lauderdale and Kittery, Maine.

Barbara was passionate about art and literature and shared this with her family; we have many memories of Greek myths told around the campfire.  Barbara was joyful and selfless, warm hearted and generous with her love, care and her time. She brought light and happiness to all who knew her.

She will be dearly missed. Her many passions included: football (Patriots and UConn), politics, dinner parties, teaching, books, volunteering, classical music, walks, cribbage, mentoring, European travel, and fine art, but most of all, she loved her grandchildren, and her nieces, and nephews. She cherished each one of them for their individuality.

Barbara leaves behind her loving husband, Paul, of 49 years, and her adoring stepchildren, David and Nancy Scagnelli of So. Burl, VT, Lynne and Tim Sullivan of Wayland, MA, Karen Scagnelli of Belchertown, and godchild Valerie Gilman and husband Paul of Gloucester, MA.  Barbara was an incredibly loving and proud grandmother to her nine grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Peter, Connor, Patrick, Ryan, Meaghan, Hannah, and Meg, and her four great grandchildren: Brayden, Mackenzie, Delaney, and Seraphina, and grand niece and nephew Casey and Jared.Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her older sister, Gloria Hanson Cohen.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local library in Barbara’s honor.
