FRAMINGHAM – Richard C. Bloom 72, a longtime resident of Framingham, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Brookline, the son of the late Daniel & Phyllis (Jerome) Bloom and beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Gex) Bloom.
Richard was raised and educated in Newton, and graduated from Newton High School, then attended Boston College.
After trying various career paths, he joined the family business, Bloom & Company, which specialized in blinds, draperies and upholstery.
Richard was still working with his son Matthew Bloom at Bloom Window Fashions up until his death.
Richard loved people, his family and friends. He enjoyed shooting trap at Woburn Sportsman’s Club. His enthusiasm for flying kites was evident on any summer day at Nantasket Beach in Hull and he also shared that passion as a member of Kites Over New England. In recent years he found he had a knack for barbecuing and smoking meat. He loved to feed anyone and everyone, especially his neighbors.
Besides his wife Mary Elizabeth, Richard is survived by his children, Joshua Bloom & grandson Daniel of Denver, CO and Matthew Bloom & grandsons Jonah and Oliver of Worceste. Brian Hutchins & his wife Mara and their children Kian, Xavier, Genevieve & Harrison of Portland, OR, Jason Hutchins & his wife Alison and their daughter Wren of Ashland, OR and mother-in-law Vernice Gex of Welches, OR.
Siblings, Jeffrey Bloom & Cindy Andrade of Waimanalo, HI, Harriet Bloom & her husband Bob Prevost of Laupahoehoe, HI, George Bloom & his wife Julie Bloom of Raynham, MA and nieces Laurie (Bloom) Flynn and her husband Billy Flynn and Janelle Bloom.
Considering the current health restrictions, Richard’s family will honor and remember his life privately.
