BOSTON – Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said to match with what the President Joseph Biden announced yesterday, he will make teachers K-12 and childcare workers eligible for the COVID vaccine as of March 11.
Yesterday, Senate President Karen Spilka announced her support for the educator community for the vaccine.
Gov. Baker said the federal government is still only providing about 135,000 doses of the vaccine each week.
He said Massachusetts has ben “squeezing” six doses out of each vial instead of five, and thus the state has had about 150,000 vaccines weekly.
Gov. Baker said adding about 400,000 teachers to the vaccine eligibility list will mean more than 1 million individuals eligible for the vaccine.
Supply for the vaccine is limited said Gov. Baker.
“We can only administer what the federal government provides the state.”
