ASHLAND – Robert J. Cavaretta of Arlington, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Mount Auburn Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

The oldest son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Ardito) Cavaretta, he was 81.

Born August 25, 1939 at the former Charlesgate Hospital in Cambridge, Robert graduated from Watertown High School in 1957 and studied Business Administration at Boston’s Burdett College.

He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard departing honorably in 1964 as a Sergeant (E-5).

Robert was an exceptional athlete in his younger years, especially in baseball, and his love of sports translated into being a lifelong Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots fan. His work career started as a branch accountant at the White Motor Company.

Later, as a Delivery Associate at the well known and former neighborhood drug store in Arlington Heights – Brattle Pharmacy which was founded by his Uncle, the late Alfred S. Cavaretta of Lexington.

Before he retired, Robert worked part-time at NAPA Auto Parts in Arlington for owner and friend Chuck Xenos. 

In addition to his former wife Patricia (Dunn) Cavaretta of Ashland, he is survived by their only son Dean J. Cavaretta of Acton. Also, his brother Steven G. Cavaretta of Waltham. One nephew Michael Deverix of Rochester, MA and two nieces Krissy (Deverix) Matarese of Ashland and Laurie (Deverix) North of Plymouth. Robert’s passing was preceded by that of the family’s beloved sister Linda A. Deverix of Falmouth in 2010. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s name to woundedwarrierproject.org.

Services and/or a memorial Mass will be planned at a later date.
