BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will begin installing new milepost-based signs on all exits located on Interstate 95 on Tuesday, February 23.

The sign installation operations are scheduled to take place nightly during overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day, and are anticipated to take approximately ten weeks to complete.

The sign installation work on Interstate 95 has been broken up into four construction segments as follows:

  • Interstate 95 between the New Hampshire border and Route 128
  • Interstate 95 between the Route 1 interchange and Route 20
  • Interstate 95 between the Interstate 90 interchange and Westwood and Canton
  • Interstate 95 between Neponset Street and the Rhode Island border

All work is weather dependent and construction dates may be adjusted as conditions warrant.

MassDOT’s Statewide Exit Renumbering Project is converting all exit numbers on roadways, per Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements. Previous to this project, interstates and major roadways in Massachusetts have always utilized a sequential exit numbering method.
