Thomas “Tom” Patrick Tierney, 77, of Framingham,  husband of Joann Mary (Paris) Tierney passed away on February 2, 2021 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  

Born April 24, 1943 in Salem, he was the son of the late Thomas Joseph and Helen (Kennedy) Tierney. 

Tom graduated in 1960 from St. John’s Preparatory High School in Danvers.

He earned a BS in Physics from Boston College in 1964, and an MS in Actuarial Science from Northeastern University.

Tom served proudly with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

 He spent his early career as an actuary working for John Hancock, Mercer Consulting, and Alexander & Alexander. He then formed an actuarial partnership (Tierney & Peters) before later starting his own actuarial consulting firm, Tierney Associates, where he continued to work for his remaining career.

Tom was elected to local political office, and active in politics for several years.

 In addition to his wife of 55 years, he leaves their three adult children, Christine Marie Woltag and her husband, Robert, of Wilmington, MA; Brian David Tierney of Albuquerque, NM and his wife Camille (Kowash) Tierney; and Linda Joan Tierney of Meriden, CT; and six grandchildren: Thomas “Tommy” Patrick Tierney Jr, Johnny Lapinski, David Robert Woltag, Evan Michael Woltag, Brendan Tierney, and Caitlin Tierney.  He is also survived by his brother Michael Francis Tierney of Salem, his sister Mary Catherine Guilmette of Peabody, MA, and his sister Ellen Patricia Miller of Danvers, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will honor and remember Tom’s life privately.
