FRAMINGHAM – Fran Carney, 79, a resident of Framingham for 48 years, passed away peacefully at home Monday, January 25, 2021 surrounded by family.

She was the beloved wife of William F. Carney with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, Fran is survived by her daughters Laura and her spouse Andy, Rachael, and Elena and her spouse Karina; her seven grandchildren Emily, Celia, Will, Elliana, Sofia, Esben and Sebastian; her sister Peggy, her niece Karen, her nephew Jimmy, and their families.

Fran was born in Cambridge on March 11, 1941. As a young woman, she loved the city of Boston, especially the North End, as well as spending summers with her cousins in Dorchester.

She married William Carney on June 17, 1961 at St. John’s Church in Cambridge. They began their family in Somerville before moving to Framingham, settling there through the end of her life.

Fran’s life included many accomplishments. She celebrated 39 years of sobriety through AA, a community she would surely want to be noted for its support and connections over the years.

She was a highly skilled typist and administrator when employed at MIT and at a major Boston CPA firm.

After raising her daughters she returned to work at Community Newspapers, where she became the top sales representative for 10 consecutive years. Fran was also involved in volunteer work, including multiple school boards as well as hand printing books and publications in braille to increase accessibility to the blind.

All will remember Fran as a strong, supportive, honest, and caring person who never left anyone in doubt of being loved. She touched many lives in a profound way. Her quick wit and sincere honesty are characteristics appreciated by all who knew her. She delighted in cooking her famous spaghetti sauce, Thanksgiving dinners, and apple pies for her family; the memories she created will be cherished, always. Fran was loved and admired by her many friends and family. She enjoyed being social; she loved bowling, knitting, playing poker, and family gatherings. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her forthright nature, and her deep love of family.

Due to current health restrictions, Fran’s services will be held privately.

The family requests that memorial gifts in her name be made to: Good Shepherd Community Care Hospice at https://gscommunitycare.org
