HOLLISTON – Annette Marie Hamlet, 81, of Holliston, passed away on January 19, 2021.

Born in Attleboro, she was the daughter of the late Exilda (Dion) and Harvey LaRosee. She was the wife of the late Darrel E. Hamlet of Holliston.

Annette graduated as an RN from Sturdy Hospital. In her younger years she worked for the Medfield Visiting Nurse Association, Westwood Lodge and Cushing Hospital.  She later served as Nursing Director at nursing homes in Blackstone, Framingham and Holliston until she retired at the age of 75.

Being a nurse was her true calling and she will be remembered for her compassionate care of the elderly. She wore sparkly, whimsical clothes to work at the nursing home to cheer the patients up. Friends and family relied on her to diagnose their ailments and illnesses, which she always followed up with “That’s what I think it is, but you need to see a doctor.” Her diagnosis was always correct, but she didn’t let it go to her head.

Annette was an active member of St. Michael’s Church in Holliston where she helped start the Apple Fest and annual Auction and worked on them every year. She volunteered for the Salvation Army, Baypath Humane Society, and Holliston Senior Center. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family, her watercolor class, and was an avid gardener, poet, and animal lover.

Annette loved to travel and went to France, Jerusalem, and annual trips to the Cape with Darrel and later with friends. She loved to break out into song at family gatherings, sometimes just to make her children roll their eyes.

Annette was a vibrant, outgoing woman who will be remembered for striking up conversations with everyone in her orbit – during her walks around Fatima Shrine, when she was out to dinner, or walking around Provincetown, the Arnold Arboretum or the Museum of Fine Arts.

Annette was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her children, Diane Fraser, Donna Nye, Darrel Hamlet, Michael Hamlet and Maureen Hamlet. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Chelsea Nye, Malackai Cameron, Breanne Hamlet, Paul Hamlet, Leigh Hamlet, Nicole Hamlet, Darrel Hamlet, and Cristina Hamlet, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Deihlia Nye and her siblings, Paul LaRosee and Jean Gonsalves.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in warmer weather at St. Michael’s Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Baypath Humane Society, 500 Legacy Farms North, Hopkinton, MA 01748 at baypath.org or to St. Michael’s Church in Holliston.

Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston.
