FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Public School District seeks to sign a 5-month lease with the Plymouth Church to provide childcare options for staff and the district’s Explorer families, when in-person learning resumes during the 2020-21 school year.

“In response to the COVID pandemic and our desire to bring students back to in-person learning, Framingham Public Schools (FPS) has created a childcare option for employees. This site will provide supervision and basic care for children’s needs to enable staff to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction,” wrote Framingham Public Schools , Executive Director of Finance and Operations Lincoln Lynch IV in a January 15 memo to the School Committee.

The $31,000 lease, paid in three installment would be from February 3, 2021 through June 30, 2021, explained Lynch to the School Committee last night.

The School Committee gave its approval of the lease last night, January 20.

“The funding source for the lease payments will be the District’s Federal CARES Act fund,” explained Lynch.

With the approval of the lease, the public school district would have “access to the Plymouth House Nursery School on location at 87 Edgell Road in Framingham. The space includes four classrooms, playground area, dumpster for trash disposal, wifi, additional keys for our staff and access to parking on site,” wrote Lynch in his memo to the School Committee.

“Any staff member utilizing childcare services will pay a fee, which will support the District’s staffing costs. Financial aid for families will be available if needed,” explained Lynch.

The District’s Community Resource Development Departmentwill oversee the site, explained Lynch.

Framingham Public Schools Buildings and Grounds staff will assist in cleaning the site and the disposal of trash, according to Lynch.

The “City just needs a majority vote by the Council to authorize the City to enter into the lease,” explained Lynch to the School Committee.

The School Committee voted unanimously to “recommends the City Council on February 2nd approves the leasing of portions of the Plymouth House Nursery School located at 87 Edgell Road in Framingham for a term of up to 5 months, as proposed by Mr. Lynch on behalf of the School Committee, and to authorize the Mayor to execute said Lease.”
