FRAMINGHAM – The joint meeting between the 11-member Framingham City Council and the Framingham Library Trustees scheduled for Tuesday, December 29, has been postponed until january 5, 2021.
The meeting was to appoint a new Library Trustee to replace Elizabeth Roy, who resigned.

In October, Elizabeth Roy, the chair of the elected Framingham Board of Library Trustees, stepped down as chair and from the board. Roy & her family are leaving Framingham.
The City of Framingham posted the position with a deadline of November 24.
Ten individuals applied for the position by the deadline, according to City Clerk Lisa Ferguson. One candidate did withdraw her name on December 8.
The City Council and the Trustees were meeting to select one individual from the nine applicants to serve out the rest of Roy’s term.

- Mary Kenney – withdrew candidacy
- Ohad Klopman
- Matthew Nicholl
- Ilene Silver

Silver was one of three finalists to fill a vacant seat for Library Trustee in September 2019. She received 6 votes and now-Trustee Heather Klish received 14 votes. Silver, a retired school principal has lived in Framingham for 25 years.

Trustees must live in Framingham.
Trustees:
- Make all reasonable rules and regulations for the operation of the municipality’s libraries and for conducting the business of the board of library trustees as may be considered necessary or desirable;
- Advise and make recommendations to the Mayor for an annual operating budget for the library department. The library trustees shall advise the mayor on all matters concerning the library department, equipment and, buildings and grounds;
- Recommend to the Mayor for appointment a candidate for library director, and;
- Accept donations and manage funds in its trust.
Trustees develop policies, evaluate library activities, serve on committees and attend monthly board meetings.
