FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Clerk Lisa Ferguson is requesting the 11-member City Council change the preliminary election date from Septemebr 21 to September 14, due to a Jewish holiday.
The Charter states a a “preliminary election for the purpose of nominating candidates be held on the third Tuesday in September in every odd-numbered year,” but September 21 is Sukkot, a Jewish holy day.
The City Council, upon request of the City Clerk, can move the election date to the second or fourth Tuesday, if it conflicts with a civil or religious holiday.
The City Council is expected to take action on the request from the City Clerk at its meeting on Tuesday, December 15.
In November 2021, Framingham voters will elect a Mayor for 4 years, 9 district City Councilors, and 9 School Committee members, along with a couple of other office holders.
