FRAMINGHAM – Kathleen (Ellickson) Foley, 95, a resident of Carmel Terrace Assisted Living, Framingham, died Sunday November 15, 2020 following a period of declining health.
Kathleen was born in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Lester & Mary M. (Martha) (Franey) Ellickson.
Kathleen was a graduate of Blackburn College and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
After marrying the love of her life Edward, they followed his career across the country from Connecticut to Seattle, to Hawaii, to Massachusetts, ultimately enjoying their golden years in Estero, Florida.
During all the transitions Kathleen was raising her children, and even found time to use her degrees working as a social worker in family service agencies in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Springfield, Massachusetts, with the Sisters of Providence in West Springfield, Massachusetts, and in school systems in both Wilbraham, Massachusetts and one of the Windsors in Connecticut. Early childhood development and education was a special expertise.
Her devotion to children was evident in her studies and work, and she found escape in jazz music, and solace in her Catholic faith. It was her role as mother to her children, Dennis P. Foley of Arlington, MA, Ann Foley & her husband Lawrence Ruth of Berkeley, CA, and Ellen Foley & her husband Kendall MacLean of Los Gatos, CA, and wife to her late husband Edward that brought her true happiness. She reveled in her many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Kathleen was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Ellickson of Illinois.
Considering current health restrictions, family and friends will honor, remember, and celebrate Kathleen’s life at a later date.
