NATICK – SPARK Kindness, a community convener, educator, and resource dedicated to promoting an inclusive community, is pleased to announce that author and advocate LeDerick Horne will present a free online program Empowering Students with Hidden Disabilities: A Path to Pride and Success. The online program is free and open to all and will take place on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. via Zoom Webinar.

Horne is a poet, advocate, and co-author of the book Empowering Students with Hidden Disabilities: A Path to Pride and Success.

Within this presentation, LeDerick Horne will share his own experience as a student with a learning disability who was able to graduate from college with a BA in mathematics. LeDerick is now one of the nation’s most sought after speakers dedicated to improving the outcomes of youth with disabilities. The grandson of a prominent civil rights leader, LeDerick uses his gift for spoken-word poetry as the gateway to larger discussions on equal opportunity, pride, self-determination and hope for people with disabilities.

During this family-focused presentation, LeDerick will give advice to help all students develop positive identities as people with disabilities. Strategies for helping students reach their transition goals will be shared as well as advice on helping students develop positive relationships in school and the adult world.

“SPARK is honored to host LeDerick Horne, as his personal story and commitment to empowering young people with disabilities aligns with our core value of inclusion – which benefits all of us” said Christine Fortune Guthery, Founder and Executive Director of SPARK Kindness. “Families of children with disabilities have been particularly affected during this pandemic. We hope that parents, caregivers, grandparents, educators and students will join our
‘online neighborhood’ for this important free program.”
