FRAMINGHAM – Even during the pandemic, the Parks and Recreation Adventure Program is open for business.

The second adventure program of the summer was held on Friday, August 14, at Waushakum Beach in South Framingham.

The final adventure adventure program is on Saturday, September 26, at Learned’s Pond. There is still time to register.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PM. Kids from ages 9 to 14 are welcome to go, with a cost of $100 per participant.

The program shows kids some outdoor skills and activities, while also having fun. This is the first summer that Parks and Recreation has hosted the program.

Staff member Joey LeClaire said that the goal of the program is to “Teach kids how to fish, how to kayak, really teach them some basic outdoor skills that most people might not know nowadays, and we also want them to have fun while doing so.”

Activities at the adventure program include fishing, kayaking, archery, and canoeing, and participants also get to use live bait and tackle while fishing.

When asked if the program has increased meaning in the pandemic, LeClaire said that “It definitely means a little something extra with the pandemic, especially with everyone staying inside so much, people are starting to see the importance of the program.”

The kids at the program had a very positive experience, with fishing and archery being some of the more popular activities, cheers were had when the target was hit in archery and a fish was caught on the water, even through the facemasks.
