Mosquito Spraying in Framingham on August 19

FRAMINGHAM – The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck-mounted aerosol sprayer to apply sumithrin in Sudbury & Framingham during the week beginning August 17. Spraying will be done between sunset and 11:30 PM.

On Tuesday, August 18, spraying will be done in areas of Sudbury that are located in the vicinity of Powder Mill Rd., Powers Rd., Dakin Rd., North Rd., Ford Rd., Mossman Rd., Haynes Rd., Pantry Rd., Morse Rd. and Thompson Dr.

On Wednesday, August 19, spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Framingham that are located in the vicinity of Cider Mill Rd., Savoy Rd., Swanson Rd., Clara Rd., Meadow Ln., Riverpath Dr. and Maymont Dr.

If postponed on any night, spraying will be rescheduled for the week beginning August 24, 2020.

The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, sumithrin, which is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA.

Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure. 

If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows.

Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after sunset.
