FRAMINGHAM – The 11-member City Council, with about 5 minutes left in its 4-hour meeting on Tuesday night, voted 9-1-1, to reject the mayor’s nominations to the Framingham Disability Commission.

District 6 City Councilor Phil Ottaviani Jr. proposed the motion to reject all the candidates, and have the Spicer administration re-submit names to the City Council for the three openings.

There had been outrage, that Mayor Yvonne Spicer had chosen not to re-appoint one of the founders of the Commission, Karen Foran Dempsey, who is now a School Committee member in District 2. (Under state law, at least one member of the Commission must be an elected or appointed official.).

The vote against the motion was from District 2 Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales. District 7 City Councilor Margareth Shepard abstained from the vote.
