BROCKTON – The Brockton Public Schools and the City of Brockton are mourning the loss of beloved Kennedy Elementary School Principal Brian Rogan who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend at the age of 58, announced the Brockton Superintendent of Schools in a press release on July 13.

“It would be impossible to describe what Brian Rogan has meant not only to the Kennedy School, but to our entire community. The Kennedy’s unique culture and traditions were built and lovingly maintained by Brian Rogan. He made the Kennedy School a wonderful place to work and learn,” said Superintendent Michael Thomas, in the press release.

Rogan began his career in 1984 as a teacher at the Kennedy, before becoming assistant principal in 1994 and principal in 2008. With a career spanning 36 years, Rogan is credited with educating thousands of “Kennedy Kids,” a name he adoringly gave to every student who entered the school.

Rogan was also the Framingham Parks & Recreation Department’s McCarthy Special Needs Day Camp Director

“Lovingly known as “Mr. Brian” to his campers, Mr. Rogan began working for the Town (now City) of Framingham in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. He began as a volunteer, and by 1984 he moved up the ranks to Director. He had been an advocate and driving figure for the program ever since,” posted the Framingham Parks & Recreation Department.

“Nobody loved or was more dedicated to his family, friends, and his students than Mr. Rogan. He had the uncanny ability to always make you feel special and put a smile on your face. Brian had an infectious spirit and touched the lives of everyone that crossed his path,” posted Framingham Parks & Recreation Department.

Known for saying, “Once a Kennedy Kid, always a Kennedy Kid,” Rogan remained true to his word. On social media Sunday, many alumni/ae shared stories of seeing Mr. Rogan out in the community as adults and expressed their surprise when he recognized them all those years later. Colleagues fondly remember Rogan beaming with pride whenever he spoke of a Kennedy Kid who was off chasing their dreams.

“My family had the pleasure of knowing Brian Rogan for decades,” said Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan, whose in-laws were educators at the Kennedy School. “He saw the best in everyone, staff and students alike. He was the kind of educator every teacher aspires to be and every parent hopes their child has in the classroom. His loss will be felt by thousands all across this city and beyond.”

“Mr. Rogan was a wonderful man who impacted tens of thousands of Brockton students over the years,” said School Committee Vice Chair Mark D’Agostino, who represents Ward Three. “It was my honor and privilege to have been his student and to later work with him as a School Committee member.”

“We are sad and heartbroken. The sun will shine a little less bright without Brian in our lives. “Mr. Brian” you will be dearly missed,” posted Framingham Parks & Recreation on social media.
