FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham History Center has cancelled its 2020 House Tour.

“We were extremely disappointed to have to postpone the tour after the COVID-19 emergency order and hoped that the fall would bring us all back to normalcy. It looks like this fight against the coronavirus will last longer than we had hoped and given the priority of keeping our community healthy and safe, we have made the difficult decision to cancel both our Patron’s Party and House Tour in 2020,” announced Framingham History Center Director Annie Murphy this morning, May 29.

“This was a hard decision for us to make on many levels. Not only will we miss seeing many old and new friends as we tour beautiful homes and gardens, the cancellation also presents us with a significant financial challenge. Without income from advertisers, sponsors, and ticket sales, we are facing a budget shortfall of over $40,000,” announced the History Center Director in an email.

Since 2001, 138 homeowners, businesses and churches have opened their doors to our community as part of the Framingham History Center’s House Tour.

“We’ve done the math, and over 10,000 tickets have been sold! Every ticket, sponsorship, and advertisement has supported our operations over the years and we are grateful to you, not only for this financial support, but for making our Framingham House Tour a true community celebration,” wrote Murphy in her email.

“If you are able to make a donation now to help us close this shortfall, your gift will go twice as far,” asked the director in an email this morning.

“A generous donor has offered to match any gift made between now and June 15. The House Tour is our single biggest fundraising event of the year and your gift now, when we are not able to raise money with events, will help support our work all year long,” wrote Murphy.

“We are sincerely grateful to those who have reached out to us with words of encouragement or generous donations. We know this is a difficult time for many and we are thankful for our community of supporters,’ concluded the director.
