MELROSE – Today, we commemorate the patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, said Congresswoman Katherine Clark in a Memorial day message.
“This year, Memorial Day has a special poignancy as we mourn the 100,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19,” said the Democrat from Melrose.
“Ever since that first shot heard around the world in Lexington in 1775, soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines, from Framingham to Winthrop, Woburn to Watertown, have laid down their lives in service to our country,” said the Congresswoman in a video message to her constituents in the district. “Today we reflect upon their sacrifice and rededicate ourselves to protecting the very cause they died for.”
“Right now we are fighting a battle on the homefront against an invisible enemy, that has taken many lives” said Rep. Clark. “Yet in these trying times we so many frontlines heroes.”

“Like the heroes we honor today, we are witnessing frontline heroes— nurses, doctors, grocery workers, EMTs, teachers, postal workers, and janitors— giving their all to keep us safe. Neighbors and family members are providing care to those in need and donating time and resources. All across the nation, Americans are making sacrifices to keep our communities safe and to beat the invisible enemy we face,” said Rep. Clark.
“I know this isn’t how we planned to commemorate Memorial Day—no parades, no ceremonies, no barbeques or gatherings with friends and family, but it’s moments like this that truly cement our nation as the “home of the brave”,” said Congresswoman Clark.
“We owe our fallen service members and their families the highest debt of gratitude. Let’s begin to repay that debt by continuing to dedicate ourselves to each other and serving our communities,” said Congresswoman Clark.
