ASHLAND – Ashland Town Manager Michael Herbert said he is “projecting a $2.4 million deficit compared to what we had planned for originally. This is primarily coming from a decrease in state aid to municipalities and local receipt charges.”

Ashland Finance Director Brittany Iacaponi “and I will be presenting our plan on how to address this challenge at a meeting of the Select Board, School Committee, and Finance Committee on Monday, May 18,” said Herbert.

Herbert said the town’s Annual Town Meeting will be held on June 16 at 7 p.m.

“We will still be holding it at the High School, we will likely be moving it to the gym to accommodate social distancing practices,” said Herbert.

The Town Manager said it “will be a “bare bones” warrant, with only five articles that are necessary to get us operational starting July 1st, all budget related.”

The annual Town Election is scheduled for June 24.

“We will be encouraging people to vote early by mail/absentee vote. My understanding is that there will be several opportunities for the candidates to discuss their thoughts and vision while explaining why they are willing to run,” said Herbert.
