FRAMINGHAM – Mary Panda-Kallon, 97, passed away in her home, in Framingham, Massachusetts, on April 30, 2020.

Mary Ernestine Panda-Kallon was born in Kundowahun, Potoru Barrier, Sierra Leone on March 10, 1923 to Nathaniel Jonathan Coker and Nancy Tucker.

At the early age of 8, she lost her mother, to childbirth complications.

She completed primary and secondary school at the Harford School for Girls in Moyamba, Sierra Leone.

She later studied home economics and nutrition in Israel then became the Head of the Ministry of the Social Welfare Department in the Moyamba District and later was transferred to head the same department in Kenema.

She took on the role of early childhood educator, social worker, doula, and mothered five children, Nancy Massaquoi-Sammah, Nathaniel Bokarie Kallon, Rosamund Sia Panda, Mabel Kumba Panda-Sammah, and Francess Finda Sammah-Panda.

She opened the door of Paramount Chieftaincy Historical Documents in the Kundowahun Kallon Family ruling the house.

After retiring, in 1987, she joined four of her children in the United States where she assisted in caring for her grand and great grandchildren.

She will be remembered everywhere she went for her Godfearing, kindhearted, outspoken, diligent demeanor, and her intelligence.

She is survived by her 5 children, 22 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Her family members Rev. Ramatu Kallon and children, Mr. and Mrs. Sheku Kallon and children, (MD, Sierra Leone), Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kallon and children, the Brooks’, Carew’s, Conteh’s, Gilbert’s, Gomes’, Kabba’s, Kaikai’s, Kamara’s, Kandeh’s, Kargbo’s, Lahai’s, Magona’s, Massaquoi’s, Momoh’s, Ogagan’s, Panda’s, Raymond’s, Roger’s, Sesay’s, Swaray’s, Tucker’s and a host of other family members in the U.S. and abroad.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who have sent their prayers, love, and condolences.

Mary will be laid to rest on Friday, May 8, 2020 from 9 a.m. to noon. Due to the current pandemic, attendance is limited to immediate family only.
