Massachusetts Reports 1,850 New COVID-19 Cases & 150 Deaths

BOSTON – The United States surpassed 1 million COVID-19 cases today, April 28. World-wide there are 3,091,141, positive COVID-19 cases.

Today, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 58,302 positive cases since the pandemic began.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 1,840 new COVD-19 cases as of Tuesday, April 28.

Today, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker extended the order to keep non-essential businesses closed through May 18.

Since the pandemic began, the Commonwealth is now reporting 3,153 deaths.

The Commonwealth reported 150 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

(Editor’s Note: The state report does say the deaths it reports every 24 hours may not have happened in the last 24 hours.)

There is no cure and no vaccine.

As of today at 4 p.m., the state has tested 254,500 individuals.

Last week, the number of COVID-19 cases hospitalized was at 9%. A good sign it has been at 7% all week, including today, April 28. The state said about 1,000 individuals are in ICUs for the virus.

Middlesex County has the most positive cases at 13,417. In comparison, Bristol County is at 3,270 cases.

Framingham has the most cases in MetroWest at almost 700 cases. The City has not released numbers for today.

The United States now has the post confirmed cases worldwide 1,004,908 cases as of 4 p.m. April 28.

Worldwide, there are more than 3 million confirmed cases.

The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 53,922 deaths as of noon on April 26.

The U.S. is leading the world in COVID-19 deaths, with more than 17,500 deaths in New York.

The CDC recommended Americans were cloth masks in public.

It is important for residents to continue to practice social distancing.

The Governor had extended his order for non-essential businesses to close or operate remotely until May 4, and this week he said he is not ready to announce if he is extending that order or would lift it.

Governor Baker said until we have a significant number of days either in a reduction in positive tests or a reduction in hospitalization, it does not make sense to re-open.

“We are not going to be interested in re-opening anything,” until we can see more data, said the Governor.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced last week, he is closing schools physically for the remaining 2019-2020 school year.

Last month, the Governor said anyone entering the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
