ASHLAND – A Framingham man is lucky to be alive, said Ashland Police Chief Vincent Alfano, after he crashed his dirt bike into a tree on Route 135 earlier today, March 25.

“He is extremely lucky to be alive,” said Chief Alfano. “By all rights, the crash should have killed him.”

Police have not identified the man injured in the crash, at this time.

Around 11:10 a.m., a cruiser on patrol spotted, two dirt bikes going down Waverley Street at a high rate of speed, said the Chief. Dirt bikes are illegal on streets & roads.

That police officer radioed to another police officer, said the bike riders were headed his way.

Trying to evade the cruiser, the one dirt bike operator tried to go down a hill, but changed his mind, and slammed into the tree, right in front of the two cruisers, said the Chief.

He estimated the dirt bike was going around 60 miles per hour.

The officers radioed immediately for paramedics, said the Chief.

The dirt bike driver was conscious at the scene, but “seriously injured” said the Chief.

A medical helicopter was requested and landed at Stone Park. Cruisers gave escort of the injured man to the park. The dirt bike driver’s condition is unknown at this time. The Chief said he is from Framingham and in his 20s.

The other driver, who has not been identified, left the scene of the crash, said the Chief.

The Chief said the speed of the dirt bike, and the wet road conditions contributed to the crash.
