FRAMINGHAM _ I hope this message finds you well and practicing social distancing. There will be plenty of time in the months and years ahead for sleepovers, playdates, social gatherings, etc., but that time is not now! Please consider the information that I shared yesterday.

The purpose of this update is to touch on teaching and learning as we go forward for the next couple of weeks. There are lots of ideas, suggestions, and possibly even direct outreach from teachers to families concerning educational resources, school work, assignments, etc. Similarly, there is lots of pressure from families on teachers and the schools to provide resources and remote learning solutions.

I am asking everyone to hold on this. The school department is working in cooperation with FTA leadership and our technology department and with guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) on what can and cannot be expected from staff, families, students, etc. during this time.

While everyone is coming from a place of positive intent here, there are issues around equity of access, Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), and contractual matters that must all be considered.

A number of meetings have been scheduled for tomorrow, both at the district and state levels, on this very topic. We will be in contact with you on specific guidance as to how we will proceed for the next two weeks – this is very much a priority for us and we won’t forget to communicate that to you.

Finally, please note that I have restricted building access. Our buildings have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and I want to keep it that way until we return. Allowing access for staff or students will counter our efforts. I understand that this is an inconvenience and I appreciate your understanding on this matter.

Please be safe and practice social distancing. We will be in touch tomorrow with additional teaching and learning updates.
