FRAMINGHAM – John Stewart Reedy, of Framingham, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. 

Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Gillespie) Reedy. 

John was the loving husband of 28 years to Ruth (Weltman) Reedy.

John was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, a Catholic high school in Albany, NY. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Siena College.

A career in sales took him first to Buffalo, NY and then to Massachusetts, where he spent the bulk of his career selling mortgages.

John was athletic and enjoyed racquetball at Waverly Oaks Athletic Club in Waltham for several years.

A friend got him to take up jogging, which led to his membership in the L Street Running Club of South Boston. He ran the Boston Marathon six times, including the 100th running. He learned to swim in his forties in order to participate in small triathlons. He also enjoyed fly fishing, kayaking, and playing Pitch with his buddies.

John was civic-minded and served as a Town Meeting member in Framingham for three years. His dedication to his community showed in his volunteer work for many different causes. He also enjoyed assisting coaches of his youngest daughter’s youth sports teams, especially softball. He loved birds and his dog, Mickey.

Besides his wife Ruth, he is survived by his four daughters: Monica Brown and Michele Reedy, of Albany, NY; Stephanie Stuart and her husband, Walter, of Schenectady, NY; and Julia Reedy, of Cambridge, MA. He also leaves his sister and her husband, Anne and Al Chase, of Jupiter, FL, and Cape Neddick, ME. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Patrick, and by his beloved Aunt Jane (Gillespie). John had five grandchildren whom he loved: Tyler, Megan, Brianna, Caitlin, and Eric.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m., at St. Anselm’s Church in Sudbury All are welcome.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street in Framingham. There will be no visiting hours.
