BOSTON – Commonwealth of Massachusetts health officials announced a third confirmed case of the coronavirus.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health said the presumptive positive case is a woman in her 60s who lives in Middlesex County.

The woman recently traveled to Europe, including northern Italy, according to the state.

The state health department said the woman was symptomatic, did not require hospitalization, and is recovering at home.

State health officials said the risk to the public from the coronavirus remains low in Massachusetts.

There have been two other cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

  • Boston man who traveled to Wuhan, China
  • Presumptive positive case involving a person from Norfolk County who recently traveled to northern Italy.

In all, 249 Massachusetts residents remain under home quarantine.

Another 490 have been cleared of any illness.

Another 470 were released from quarantine completing their monitoring.
