FRAMINGHAM – Before a standing-room crowd of more than 2,500 at Loring Arena, the Spyponders defeated Framingham 2-1 in the MIAA double-elimination tournament.

The #1 seed Arlington boys hockey team was down 1-0 after Framingham senior captain Will Trischitta scored with 15 seconds left in the first period.

Arlington scored a power-play goal in the second period to tie the game 1-1 in the second period.

The Spyponders scored early in the third, the eventual game-winning goal.

“It’s a tough loss. It stinks for sure,” said head coach Will Ortiz after the game. “I’m proud of the way our kids played from start to finish.”

He said goalie Jake Handy gives Framingham an opportunity to win everytime he is on the ice.

“That kick save in the second period was unbelievable,” said Ortiz.

Ortiz said he relied on his top two lines in this game.

UPDATED: Framingham will now play Xaverian High on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Gallo Arena in Bourne.

This will be the third time the Flyers and the Hawk have battled.

Framingham won in December at Loring Arena, and then lost late in the season 4-2 to Xaverian.

This time it will be neutral ice, but a battle is still expected as the loser will skate no more.

SOURCE will have a slideshow from Thursday night and a preview on Sunday’s game soon.
