DeGeorge Studying in Italy During Spring Semester

WORCESTER – Shayla DeGeorge, of Natick, is spending the spring semester studying abroad in Italy.

“Assumption offers its students an array of opportunities to expand their cultural and educational boundaries through a number of study abroad programs,” said Eloise Knowlton, Ph.D., associate vice president for academic affairs and director of the study abroad program. “Whether in Asia, Australia, Central America, or Europe, those students who take advantage of studying abroad not only earn class credits, but have valuable life experiences that cannot be taught in a classroom.”

This spring, Assumption students are studying in Australia, Costa Rica, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Singapore, Spain, Washington, DC, and through the Semester at Sea program.

A group of Assumption students are also spending the semester at the College’s campus in Rome, Italy, where they can fulfill core requirements as “the Eternal City” becomes a living classroom.

Studying abroad not only provides students with a unique learning opportunity, but improves their understanding of other cultures and expands their world views, an asset that might increase employability after graduation.

According to the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA), a recent survey of 800 U.S. business executives found that “75 percent of the companies indicated that a global perspective was important for their staff and 80 percent believed their overall business would increase if more of their staff had more international experience.”
