FRAMINGHAM – Losses to Xaverian and Burlington this month, may have cost the Framingham High boys ice hockey team one of the coveted top 6 spots in the “Super 8” hockey tournament.

The seedings came out tonight, February 20.

Framingham is seeded #8 and this means the Flyers must win a play-in game against #9 Reading High to advance to the Super 8.

The winner is in, and the loser goes to the Division 1 tournament in the MIAA.

Framingham will battle Reading High at Stoneham Rink on Sunday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m.

The Flyers are led by senior captain Will Trischitta, who has 18 goals this season, and in net by senior Jake Handy.

Tickets are $12 adults and $7 students.

The Flyers are 14-5-2, under head coach Will Ortiz.

The other play-in game is #7 Burlington, whom the Flyers lost to this week in overtime, and #10 Hingham, whom the Flyers defeated earlier this month.

The #1 seed in the tournament is perennial public school powerhouse Arlington High. The Spyponders record is 16-1-4.

The #2 seed is Boston College High, with Pope Francis the #3 seed.

St. John’s Prep is the #4 seed, with Xaverian #5 and Catholic Memorial is the #6 seed.

Framingham played most of the top 10 teams during the regular season, except the #1 seed and Reading, whom they will play on Sunday.

Last year, Framingham was the #5 seed. The 2019 season was the first time the Flyers were in the Super 8 since 2004 – #5 was the highest seed in the program’s history.

Fifteen Flyers on last year’s Super 8 team are on this year’s roster.

Framingham was bounced from the tournament last year by the Harbormen of Hingham High. They finished the season at 17-5-2.
