Downtown Celebration To Present Community Cornerstone, Building Block Awards

FRAMINGHAM – On Monday, December 16, the 3rd Annual Downtown Celebration will celebrate its audience – a mix of hard-working stakeholders who imagined and delivered exciting ways to build business, community, and culture in 2019.

The dinner party is hosted by Downtown Framingham, Inc. (DFI) at St. Tarcisius Hall (562 Waverly Street) from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event will be co-hosted by business journalist and media personality Eliseu Caetano.

The Celebration will feature two innovative, daring business owners.  Simon Freitas, owner of Simon’s Auto Body, re-located his state-of-the-art automobile body shop this year to 37 Waverly Street.  Simon’s wife, Rhay Freitas, opened the vibrant BeHappy Fitness at 185 Concord Street this past October.

DFI will present the first-ever Community Cornerstone Award to Panza Shoes, which has thrived in the Central Business District since 1944.

Owner Richard Panza has worked closely and supported DFI over the years by attending evening meetings and supporting DFI’s efforts to influence downtown policy decisions.

Also for the first time, DFI will present the Building Block Award to one of the many exciting new businesses that has opened its doors downtown in 2019.

Evan Robertson, the DFI Project Manager, will share his commitment toward understanding and responding to the needs of this densely populated mixed-use area.

Evan serves in the Army National Guard, interns at the MetroWest Economic Research Center, and will receive his degree in Economics this month from Framingham State University before he embarks upon his Master of Business Administration this January.

Mayor Yvonne Spicer will present this year’s Downtown Hero Award.  Courtney Thraen, Executive Director of Downtown Framingham, Inc., will conclude the night with the organization’s projects and policy goals for 2020.

The event’s silent auction and raffle will feature items from n+1 Cyclery, Concord Dental, local artist Kristin Conant, artist Amy Weader, Pho Dakao, Jack’s Abby Brewing Co., Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Co., Auto Brite, Golden Circle, and more!

The event will feature musician Josh Skelly, live sketch artist Jason-Cheeseman Meyer, and a parody of ‘Let it Snow’ customized for downtown Framingham.
